Veteran’s Day Thanks & Giving Yoga + Brunch

Please join us for a free all-ages/all-abilities Gratitude Yoga and brunch on 11/18 at 9am. This will be an instructor-led gentle yoga practice with bubbly beverages and pastries to follow at Glenville Park. Bring a mat if you have one. In addition to yoga, we’ve registered with “Treats for Troops” for a special opportunity to give back. If you have leftover candy from Halloween or simply want to buy more to donate, we will collect any individually wrapped candy during the event. You can read more about the organization here.

Special Halloween Yard of the Month Results!

The results of the voting are in and 1109 Morningstar beat out the competition. Congratulations to the Fazio’s for their impressive display. They will receive a $50 gift card.

Runner up was Freddy Ray, 1008 Rainbow. He will receive a $25 gift certificate.

Holiday Decorating Contest Tour

Holiday decorations make the neighborhood sparkle, and it adds to the excitement for both young and old. We encourage everyone to participate by decorating their homes for the holidays.

This year we are going to try something new. On Sunday evening December 17 we will have an event starting in the park and invite neighbors to tour the neighborhood and vote on the best decorations. We will reconvene at the park and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies courtesy of the neighborhood association while tallying the results. The winner will receive a $100 gift certificate and the runner up will receive a $50 gift certificate. More details will be communicated as plans are solidified.

Book Club

We were able to get together and discuss The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab even though some of us didn’t read (me!). Just goes to show there is always a lively discussion where anyone can participate even if you didn’t read the book!

We will have a Christmas party on December 2nd from 1-3pm in lieu of reading a book this month. Please join us if you are able, even if you weren’t able to make a meeting all year, we would love to have you! We will have tea and light snacks/desserts as well as a fun gift exchange (details below)! Please email Hannah at spateshannah@gmail.com to sign up to bring something. We will also have a White Elephant gift exchange. Please bring one book and a gift under $15 wrapped to participate.

Reading resumes in January 2024 with Skyward by Brandon Sanderson. Thank you for reading with us this year!

If you’d like to get on our book club list, please email: spateshannah@gmail.com. Happy Reading!

Crime Watch Patrol

We had an unusual number of incidents in September which appears to be a bit of an anomaly with fewer events recently. With the cooler weather and the holidays, crime tends to pick up a bit so it is important to remain vigilant. If you seen any unusual activity, call 911 and let the authorities know of your concern.

If you are willing to help with Crime Watch Patrol, please contact Doug Freeman at d1004free@aol.com to sign up.

House Number Project

The house number project is still alive and well. Volunteers will make a sign at no charge for your back fence to comply with city regulations. These numbers make it easier for emergency services to find your residence.

Membership

Thanks to everyone who is supporting the association. Your memberships and volunteerism makes our neighborhood better and more enjoyable for everyone.

You may pay your membership by credit card, Zelle™ or personal check. Details on the membership page: ncpna.org/join. If you pay by Zelle™, be sure and include your name and street address in the message block so we can match you payment with you!

Our volunteer flag placement team makes it possible for us to offer the combined membership and flag placement for $65 which is a savings of $10 for members.

Membership alone is $25.

If you have questions about the association, please contact Robert Grinsfelder rmgrins@aol.com

Community Flag Program

To keep our costs down we have a volunteer flag team who help deploy and retrieve the flags. If you can place and remove the flags on your street it would be very helpful. We can deliver and pickup the flags at your home. We will be picking up Veterans Day flags this weekend. Next placement will be President’s Day which falls on February 19th.

We now have over 100 flags flying in North College Park! If you are willing to help with this activity, please contact Janice Gromadin at Elway100@gmail.com.

Help Plan Or Staff Our Special Events

We need more neighbors involved in helping to plan and work at our special events. These include the Spring Celebration, our Backyard Tour event, the 4th of July parade/caravan and party, our National Night Out and other new events in the works! Please contact Robert Grinsfelder at rmgrins@aol.com for more information!

About North College Park Neighborhood Association

NCPNA is a neighborhood association, and unlike a homeowner's association, we do not have any authority over anyone's property. We sponsor activities and projects to help make our neighborhood a more pleasant and safe place to live. Volunteers are always needed, and we look forward to hearing about new ways to achieve our collective goals.

Contact Robert Grinsfelder at rmgrins@aol.com if you can help with any of these activities.
