Membership Update

Your membership dues allow the NCPNA to host our January Annual Meeting Dinner, provide materials to implement and promote our 5-6 special events and other monthly programs, support the flag program and keep the neighborhood informed about all of our activities, especially our crime watch/public safety and other city news and developments.

Our volunteer flag placement team makes it possible for us to offer the combined membership and flag placement for $65 which is a savings of $10 for members. Membership alone is $25.

Book Club

We had a great first meeting of the year! Many members missed due to sickness this month, but we still enjoyed the discussion of the young adult science fiction read, Skyward by Brandon Sanderson, chosen by Julie Cogdill. Newcomers and long-time loyalists to the sci-fi genre had fun. Young adult books may make more of an appearance in our book club as the fun, quick read was a hit!

Looking ahead to February, we have the author of On a Quiet Street, Seraphina Nova Glass, joining us for our meeting thanks to Linda Vaughn! This is a book club you will NOT want to miss! Join us Saturday 2/24 from 1-3pm at Hannah Spate’s home whether you’ve read the book or not.

If you’d like to get on our book club list, please email: spateshannah@gmail.com. Happy Reading!

Trash Bash April 20, 2024

Meet at the picnic pavilion in Glenville Park at 10 AM to receive materials (trash bags, gloves etc.). We will spread out around the park, and the neighborhood hunting trash. Bring filled bags back to the pavilion by 11:30 AM.

It is a great way to get service time for scouts, religious and other organizations.
Note: you do not need to register. The NCPNA is already registered as a group.
Like in past years, you can place your electronics in the pick-up truck at 407 Palomar between 9AM and 1:30 PM Saturday. They will be delivered to Richardson Square for recycling.
Bring the following to the First United Methodist Church Richardson: Eyeglasses for the Lion’s Club, donations for Network, and cooking oil. Receive a free bag of compost.

Crime Watch Patrol

We continue to enjoy very low crime in North College Park. The best strategy is to keep doing the obvious things; Lock your car, remove valuables, keep tempting items out of sight. Good lighting in the back of your home. Remove packages promptly from your porch when delivered.

Remember if you see anything which just does not feel right, call 911 and report what you saw.

Our monthly crime patrol meetings have moved to Rocco’s Italian Restaurant next to Kroger at 6:30pm on March 4th. Our meetings are always open to everyone. Please come join us for our meeting and stay for dinner, Dutch treat.

If you are willing to help with Crime Watch Patrol, please contact Doug Freeman at d1004free@aol.com to sign up.

House Number Project

The house number project is still alive and well. If your sign is old and faded, let us know and we will refurbish it for you. Volunteers will make a sign at no charge for your back fence to comply with city regulations. These numbers make it easier for emergency services to find your residence.

Community Flag Program

To keep our costs down we have a volunteer flag team who help deploy and retrieve the flags. If you can place and remove the flags on your street it would be very helpful. We can deliver and pickup the flags at your home. Next placement will be Memorial Day in May.

We now have over 100 flags flying in North College Park! If you are willing to help with this activity, please contact Janice Gromadin at Elway100@gmail.com.

Information on the old Sears building

On Feb. 7th the owner/developer, broker, and general contractor for the property at 201 South Plano Road (the old Sears building) had an open house outside in front of the old Sears Building.

Annual Meeting / Membership Event – Recap

Thanks to the almost 70 neighbors who attended our Annual Meeting at Amigo’s on January 18th . There was great fellowship and food provided by the NCPNA.

We also were honored to have as our special guest speaker Mayor Bob Dubey who shared an update on the city and graciously answered many questions. He shared progress on the new city hall and library, road construction and the status of the plans for the Sears building among other topics.

We discussed processes and activities, and we are looking forward to a successful year.

During the business portion of the meeting Janice Gromadin was elected president, Robert Grinsfelder, vice president, Doug Freeman Treasurer and April Anderson Secretary. Thanks to everyone who has been so generous with their time and talent.

About North College Park Neighborhood Association

NCPNA is a neighborhood association, and unlike a homeowner's association, we do not have any authority over anyone's property. We sponsor activities and projects to help make our neighborhood a more pleasant and safe place to live. Volunteers are always needed, and we look forward to hearing about new ways to achieve our collective goals.

Contact Robert Grinsfelder at rmgrins@aol.com if you can help with any of these activities.
