With our current membership standing at 95, we’re getting close to reaching our goal of 125 members! Why join, you ask? Spring Celebration and Egg Hunt,

Join us for the Spring Celebration and Egg Hunt in Glenville Park! It’s a fun-filled day for the whole family, brought to you in partnership with Town North Park, College Park, and TJ’s Dawg House food truck. Egg-citement awaits:

• Separate egg hunts for different age groups with prizes hidden in every egg!
• Get your giggles on with classic games: Hula Hoops, 3-legged races, egg toss, and cornhole.
• Tantalize your taste buds: TJ’s Dawg House food truck will be serving up delicious treats (available for purchase).

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and baskets for an egg-cellent time!

Membership Update

Your membership dues allow the NCPNA to host our January Annual Meeting Dinner, provide materials to implement and promote our 5-6 special events and other monthly programs, support the flag program and keep the neighborhood informed about all of our activities, especially our crime watch/public safety and other city news and developments.

Our volunteer flag placement team makes it possible for us to offer the combined membership and flag placement for $65 which is a savings of $10 for members. Membership alone is $25.

Book Club

We had a great first meeting of the year! Many members missed due to sickness this month, but we still enjoyed the discussion of the young adult science fiction read, Skyward by Brandon Sanderson, chosen by Julie Cogdill. Newcomers and long-time loyalists to the sci-fi genre had fun. Young adult books may make more of an appearance in our book club as the fun, quick read was a hit!

Looking ahead to February, we have the author of On a Quiet Street, Seraphina Nova Glass, joining us for our meeting thanks to Linda Vaughn! This is a book club you will NOT want to miss! Join us Saturday 2/24 from 1-3pm at Hannah Spate’s home whether you’ve read the book or not.

On Feb. 7^th the owner/developer, broker, and general contractor for the property at 201 South Plano Road (the old Sears building) had an open house outside in front of the old Sears Building.

Several residents from NCPNA went in addition to residents from the other neighborhoods in East Richardson. There were about 300 people in attendance. 

The developer/broker were not prepared for the size of crowd.  They had only 15 brochures to hand out, no speaker system, and no posters or diagrams other than what was in the brochure.

The plan is to place a Japanese Grocery store, AEON (https://www.welcome-aeon.com/) in the back of the building.  It will be the first of the chain outside of Asia.  According to the developer, the store will not just carry Japanese food, however, they expect people to come a long distance to the store.  They claimed it would be on the level of Sprouts or maybe Whole foods.  The stores in the AEON chain in the Asia are department stores that sell food, household goods, clothing and other items.  Similar to a Super Target.  However, the one in Richardson, they said, will only have groceries. 

They plan to have a few smaller stores and eateries (such as a Panera).  It was not clear whether these places would be in the AEON or under the roof but outside the store.

They do not have all the permits cleared yet.  The city has some improvements to safety and traffic access they need to make first.

They were not able to work out an arrangement with Sprouts, Whole Foods, or HEB.

NCPNA will provide a taco buffet dinner for members and new members. Adult beverages will be a personal expense. You may renew or join at the event.

Veteran’s Day Thanks & Giving Yoga + Brunch

Please join us for a free all-ages/all-abilities Gratitude Yoga and brunch on 11/18 at 9am. This will be an instructor-led gentle yoga practice with bubbly beverages and pastries to follow at Glenville Park. Bring a mat if you have one. In addition to yoga, we’ve registered with “Treats for Troops” for a special opportunity to give back. If you have leftover candy from Halloween or simply want to buy more to donate, we will collect any individually wrapped candy during the event. You can read more about the organization here.

National Night Out

National Night Out, A great Success

National Night Out on Tuesday, October 3rd, attracted over 200 people who enjoyed great weather, burgers, tacos and sandwiches from the Grill LLC Food Truck and Kona Ice. The popular Berkner Drum Line gave a another great performance and young children were excited to meet Chase from Paw Patrol, a popular cartoon show. Our Richardson First Responders dropped by as did our City Council member Curtis Dorian. Local merchants, especially Applebee’s, donated items for our many door prizes!

We collaborated with the College Park and Town North neighborhood associations for our biggest event in many years! Thanks to our volunteers who helped promote, set up and tear down the event! See photos here.

National Night Out

National Night Out, Tuesday October 3rd

On Tuesday, October 3rd, we will gather at Glenville Park for National Night Out from 6-8 pm! We will be joined by the College Park and Town North neighborhoods. The Grill LLC food trucks with Burgers, Tacos & Sandwiches and the Kona Ice truck will offer items for purchase. The Berkner Drum Line will perform.

There will be visits from our Richardson First Responders, city officials and special guest Chase from Paw Patrol! Everyone is also being asked to support Network by bringing needed items.

The City of Richardson competes in Category 2 (cities with pop. 100,000 – 299,000) for 1st place in the nation to highlight the great Police and community partnership in the fight against crime.
